NUTCRACKER
December 19 - 20, 2009

This holiday season, you and your loved ones will be treated to something special, a performance that lifts your holiday spirit, and a wondrous experience that evokes joy and happiness to kids of all ages. An annual Wilmington Christmas tradition since 1967, the Wilmington Ballet Academy of the Dance's production of the Nutcracker follows the story of young Clara on Christmas night as she is tangled in a battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, and travels through the Land of Sweets. Snowflakes becoming dancing maidens, Hot Chocolate, Mandarin Tea, Arabian Coffee, Marzipan, and Mother Ginger and her children perform for Clara's entertainment. With the breathtakingly beautiful dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, Clara's fairytale adventure concludes as she awakens next morning under the Christmas tree.

This year's production features American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Michele Wiles, as the Sugarplum Fairy, American Ballet Theatre Soloist, Cory Stern, as her Cavalier, and dancers from the Sandonato School of Ballet. As always, the ballet will be performed with live music provided by the Wilmington Ballet Orchestra.

Make the Nutcracker at the DuPont Theatre a part of your family's holiday tradition, and experience the magic of this beautiful Christmas storyy.
